Orientation

(left)The Guild Lawn was transformed into a picture of colour and excitment at last Friday's Orientation fair. Well done Andrea!!
The Office of Student Services of the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus must be commended for a job well done for their orientation fair which was held campus-wide on Friday August 27th 2010.New Students assembled in the three lecture theatres of the Roy Marshall Campus where they were introduced to University officials and members of the Council of the Guild of Students. The Clico Centre on the hill overlooking The Roy Marshall Complex was also hosting new students who watched the proceedings via closed circuit television.

Under the theme "Start Today, Reach Inside. Value Execellence," (S.T.R.I.V.E.) freshers were encouraged to strive for excellence in life and during their time on campus. The Guild Council also played its role in the presentations.Notably, the president Mr.Carl Padmore performing the MC duties. The P.R.O Mr.Danny Babb also took part, in a comedic skit with Humanities and Education student Shakera Maynard which warned students of graduating from the stop lights,to the benches by the trees and earning degrees in "liming."That well recieved perfomance was followed up soon after by the Vice President Odwin "Don Trent" Trenton belting out the Red Plastic Bag penned "Strive for Execellence".

After the presentation students were given guided tours of the campus by student volunteers from Student Services. The Guild Lawn was the scene of the culmination of the Orientation fair with a number of businesses diplaying their goods and services being well patronised by the students on hand.Energy Vbyz kept things jamming by playing a slew of regional, national and international hits while Mr.Padmore continued to keep the energy high by hosting impromptu competitions and giveaways.Next year we look forward to another quality production from the Office of Student services working in concert with the council of the Guild of Students.
