(left) Humanities and Education week climaxed last Friday with a Vbyz Kartel inspired lime entitled "Wear What Ya Have!!"
The highlight of Humanities and Education Week was arguably the Poetry Reading held in the Student's Union on Wednesday February 2nd 2011.It being Black history month, perhaps it was no coincidence that apart from a few pieces which offered perspectives on relationships, most of the pieces performed on the night were about the awakening of black conciousness.Matthew Murrell arguably presented this concept best with his highly acclaimed "Angry Black Boy" which was well recieved by patrons and fellow performers alike.Other performers included first timer to the stage Keemah Bayne, Rohan Best and Simon Dolcy.Popular "fling"(bajan version of rap) group Azman were among the seasoned performers onstage along with Daba and a special appearances by Donya Piggott and "Alff " Padmore.
MC's for the show were Apollo and Christina Smith. The latter took the opportunityto launch U.W.I.W.A, short for University of the West Indies Writer's Association.Smith stated that the new organisation would seek to encourage writing among its membership and provide outlets for them to showcase their talents.
